BAGELS, HALLS & BBQ

Set for a taste adventure, the team travelled into London to explore a bagel shop, foodie destination and a BBQ festival on our latest Eat With Your Eyes Food Safari.
Heading off the tube down the sun-soaked street of Tottenham Court Road, we were excited to sample some freshly baked bagels from a place we’d been hearing good things about!
As we approached the corner of Howland Street, the striking red, white and black branding with bold window graphics and outdoor seating invited us into B-Bagel, where we were met with a feast for the senses – baked goods on display along with an extensive range of on-the-go products. The menu was easy to navigate with plenty of filling options and eight bread types, plus specials, smoothies and coffees!
Jackie and Steve sat outside in the dappled sunlight to tuck in… “The bread is so incredibly fresh and the filling is packed with flavour – spicy and fragrant”. We tried two bagels: Chicken Schnitzel on Poppy and Chicken Avocado on Everything, along with a Jarr Passion Fruit Kombucha.
Hopping back on the tube we headed to explore Market Halls Victoria. On route we enjoyed the sights of The Palm House, Little Ben and London red buses passing by.
We entered the halls, to be met with buzzing sounds and delightful foodie smells.
Paolo was keen to try some DF Tacos and said “the herby classic chicken taco was simple and tasty – full of flavour and served up speedily for London’s lunchtime crowd.”
We soaked up the atmosphere with some refreshing drinks while waiting for our next train…
Arriving in Peckham Rye, we weaved our way through the street art covered arches towards the Fume BBQ Festival…
First up we were enticed towards Rack City Ribs… where their smokers filled the air with smoky aromas and blazing flames. They really turned up in force with 6 BBQ’s going and as many staff on hand to smoke, cook, slice, and serve up your order. The wait was at times hard on eager customers, but if you’re looking for tender, slow cooked BBQ meats then the wait inevitable!
Their Korean style thin cut beef bacon was sublime, and a tasty stop gap while we waited patiently for the slow cooked beef ribs – they were crunchy yet tender with a delicious sweetness from the bourbon glaze. We loved their applewood smoked pork ribs “the meat fell off the bone and had an immense smoky flavour”. Happy smiles all round from the crew and their customers!
Next up we were curious to try ‘God’s Butter’ from Burnt Smokehouse – served on a marrow bone with toasted ciabatta it was super soft and flavourful.
We stopped at the bar to take it all in and watch the stage cooking shows where Steve had the pleasure of bumping into @eatingwithtod co-owner of Fume!
Heating up from the blazing sunshine and surrounding BBQ’s we decided on our last try of the day and wow did it deliver! The 12-hour smoked Pork Belly glazed in a delicious pineapple chimichurri from Smoke Shed was certainly our favourite of the day.
Scott who filmed the whole experience said, “a collaboration of culture and flavour was really brought to life under the Peckham Arches with the perfect summer weather and vibrant atmosphere of like-minded foodies. A total vibe!”
Tastebuds satisfied we headed home in the early evening pleased with the day’s adventures, all captured here in our Food Safari video.
